Dr Seuss drawing competition!

As part of our book week at MHP we are entering a drawing competition to try and win a prize. We drew our favourite Dr Seuss character - first on our mini whiteboards and then on paper. We coloured them in and they will be judged by Mrs Jackways in the library. The winner will be announced at assembly on Friday! Fingers crossed it is one of LZ7's amazing artists!!

Seussville!

This week is book week at MHP and we are celebrating Dr Seuss' birthday by reading lots of his wonderful stories. Today we had a look at this cool website called Seussville which has lots of activities and games to play. We can explore it at school and at home! The 3 Billy Goats Gruff!

Today the Mighty Mice reading group performed a play in front of the whole studio called 'The 3 Billy Goats Gruff". They did a fantastic job getting into their characters and reading with expression (especially Troy the troll!) and all the children watching really enjoyed it! Well done to Troy, Risha, Frances and Melinda for working hard with Mrs Hood to make their play such a success!

3 Little Billy Goats (a puppet play!)

This week the 'Super Snakes' reading group were working on a play called "The 3 little billy goats" - a sing song rhyming tale based on the original story. They decided to make puppets for the characters (which they projected and traced off the whiteboard) and then had the choice of being the reader for the character or the puppet for it instead. We had lots of fun making it! Well done for fantastic expressive reading to Logan, Hannah G, Kashvi and Faatimah!

Oh No!

This video is from the ACE reading group 'Bookworms' and is a short puppet show retelling the book "Oh No!" The kids loved making it! We think it is pretty good too!

Ricky's robot dog!

One of the books that Ricky's reading group read recently was called "Robots you can make". It had instructions for 3 different types of robot including this fantastic robot dog! Well done to Ricky and his family for making the robot dog at home...3 times!! What a superstar family you are!!

Buddy reading!

We love reading and especially buddy reading! We often pair up with our friends in LZ5 and share our books with each other. We take turns to read and listen and help each other out if we get stuck on a word!

Look at our ratty tatty cats!!

We have been reading the big book called 'Ratty tatty cats' by Jill Eggleton. We made our own ratty tatty cats and a cityscape scene for them to live in and displayed it in the Earth Studio. You can look at each cat and read a little bit about them in the following individual posts...

Making a hungry hen!

Aren't the clever cats reading group clever?? Today they had to read instructions on how to make a hungry hen out of their junior journal and then work through all the steps to make it! They did a great job and their hens look wonderful!

The Mighty Mice and the 3 little pigs!

This week the Mighty Mice reading group have been working with Mr V and one of their books was 'The 3 little pigs'. They performed a play of the story in front of LZ6 and LZ5. They had to work hard to try and get into character and use actions to make their performance interesting. The sound is a little quiet so listen up!

The Clever Cats show their skills!

As part of reading this week the Clever Cats had an instructional piece on how to make a rocking horse card. We thought it would be cool to try it out so we did! We had to read very carefully to know what to do! Did we manage to make them? Check out the photos and see.

CD stories!

We love reading in LZ6 and even better we love listening to stories on CD. This group of readers are listening to "The gardener and the scarecrow". We thought you might like to listen as well!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to our latest certificate winners! Dylan was away on Friday and unfortunately missed out on receiving his excellence award at our school assembly but has got it now to take home and share with his family. Also look at all our latest 25+ readers! No wonder we are all such good readers in LZ6! Well done to you all!

Our race into reading challenge!

We love reading books! These photos are taken in our amazing library that we go and visit each week as a class. To help us get even BETTER at reading we started a 'race into reading' competition today. We have to take home a different library book each night and read it together with our parents. Each book we read gets a sticker on our racing track and the first 5 to the finish line get a surprise! We are all really excited about reading lots and sharing our stories with others. It will take a long time because we have to read over 70 books to get to the finish!!

Our 25+ readers!

These super people are great readers and they are showing their certificates for reading over 25 books this term! Each day we check that we have read our books at home with Mum or Dad and that they have signed the notebook. The more we read the better we get!!

Grumpy Bear!

Today we made a video of our big book "Grumpy Bear". We each had to be a character out of the book and we had head bands to wear. Nikail was Grumpy Bear and he was really good at it. It was hard to stay quiet during filming but we did it! It was lots of fun to retell our story this way.
