LZ7's got TALENT!!

We had the finals of MHP's got talent on Thursday and 4 students from our Learning Zone were in it!!  Well done to AJ, Frances, Angel and Hiro for all being brave enough to strut their stuff, play their music and sing their heart out in front of the entire school!!
Huge congratulations to Hiro, who along with his brothers Riki and Mitch, won the middle school section singing the Bruno Mars song Grenade.  LZ7 definitely has A LOT of talent!!!

AJ the music video star!

Our very own AJ is breaking into the media world with his first appearance in a music video!  He was chosen along with a group of children to be in Annah Mac's latest song called 'Bucket'.  Check it out for yourself in the YouTube clip above.  AJ is wearing a pirate costume with a red bandana tied around his head...see if you can spot him!

Letter writing!

As part of our unit of inquiry on communication we wrote individual letters to children at another school...and the other day we all received some letters back!  It was very exciting to get our very own letter addressed to us and to find out some more information about our new friends in room 9!  We spent some time reading them and sharing them with our buddies in class.  Next up we will be sending emails to room 9 and comparing and contrasting the different ways of communicating.

JLC breakfast!

Over a week all the JLC classes took part in a breakfast event!  We got to wear our pyjamas to school, make our own breakfast (toast, cereal and fruit), wash and dry our dishes, brush our teeth and get dressed ready for the rest of the day!  It was such a fun morning and everyone ate soooooo much!!  What a great way to start the day!

Wacky hair day!

Look at our wacky hair!!  It was wacky hair day for our term 3 mufti day and we could wear a crazy hat or make our hair wacky for the day!  We wish we could wear our hair like that every day!!

Our trip to the NZ Herald!

As part of our communication inquiry we went on a trip to see the NZ Herald get printed.  We were shown around the whole factory and saw the printing plates being made, the printing presses running, the quality checks being done, the stacking and packing of the papers and even saw robots in action!  The robots are used to get the big rolled reams of paper to print on - they weigh over a ton so people cannot lift them!  One of the robots was called Ricky which is AJ and Hiro's brothers names!  It was really fun and interesting to see all the machines in action.

Cross country!

A couple of weeks ago we held our school cross country.  It was a great afternoon and we were blessed with fine weather unlike last year!  All of LZ7 tried their very best and enjoyed the run.  Congratulations to Kaylin who was the winner of the year 2 girls!

MHP Olympic Day!

We had a wonderful day celebrating the Olympic Games at MHP.  The day started with an opening ceremony parade where each Learning Zone shared the team they had been supporting and learning about.  We had Norway so had made Norweigan viking helmets, swords and shields to wear!  After morning tea it was time for the games to begin!  We were split into teams of mixed year groups and rotated around 20 different activities for the rest of the day.  We got to have fun doing running races, soccer skills, throwing rubber chickens, playing tug of war and moonhoppers just to name a few!  At each station the teacher would record in our team book who had shown the Olympic values the best and real medals were given out to the top 3 for the school at assembly that week.  What a cool day!

Fraction Penguins!

As part of our learning about fractions, we decided to make fraction penguin pictures.  We had to create all the body parts from fractions of a circle including halves, quarters and eighths.  It was a fun way to help us learn!  We think our fraction penguins are pretty cool!

Congratulations to Tanya!

Well done to Tanya for winning the Excellence Award for LZ7 at assembly this week!  Tanya earned her certificate for her wonderfully positive attitude towards learning and always working so hard in class.  Tanya, you are a great role model for others in LZ7 - keep up the awesome work!

Olympic news!

The 2012 Olympic Games are well underway and last week we were given a team to support and also learn about.  LZ7 has Norway so we are starting to learn a little bit about the country as well as their Olympic team!  Watch this space to see what we do!
