Disco fever!!

Last Friday was our first disco of the year and had a theme of 'The 80's'.  (Funnily enough none of LZ7 were even around then so a bit of research was needed!)  Lots of people came and boogied the night away to the DJ's awesome sounds and it looked amazing in the dark with all the glow in the dark effects!

Autumn leaves are falling!

We have noticed that all of a sudden it has turned colder and the leaves on some trees are changing colour!  Autumn is well and truly arrived, in fact it is nearly winter!  We went out and collected some autumn leaves from around school and spent some time observing them, sketching them and brainstorming lots of describing words for them.  We are typing all our words on the computer in different fonts and gluing them all around our dye and bleach pictures.  We will post them on the blog as soon as we complete them.  Watch this space...

Making butter!

As part of our learning 'From Field to Table' we made our very own butter!  It is really easy but you have to be patient because it takes a long time.  We put cream and a pinch of salt in a container and then shook it and shook it and shook it!  Slowly it changed colour and shape and state.  We poured off the buttermilk and spread our butter onto biscuits to try it.  Delicious!!!

The story of milk!

We are learning all about milk this term as part of our Integrated Studies 'From Field to Table'.  This week we are looking at the process of what happens to the milk once it leaves the farm and heads to the factory.  Fonterra's website has some great information about this so we thought we would share it here.  Just click on the picture above to visit the website and learn more!

Our milking adventure!

We are learning about milk and the process of how it is made.  Just for fun today, we decided to try and see what it was like to milk a cow...using a glove as the udder!  We filled our gloves with water and tied a knot in the top before poking a small hole in the fingers/teats.  We took turns to milk our 'cows' out on the balcony outside our room.  What a crazy time, but oh so much fun!!

ANZAC day stories and art!

April 25th is ANZAC day. When it is ANZAC day we remember the people that died in the war. On ANZAC day people wear a flower called a poppy. The people in the war died for freedom for their country. They fought in a meadow of poppies and when they were buried the poppy flowers looked like the blood of the soldiers that died. Now there is a parade and a man plays a special song with a trumpet.

Today was the first day back of term 2 so for something different we wrote poems about all our favourite holiday activities. Then we put all our ideas into a wordle online. Easter bunnies!

We made Easter bunnies on the last day of term to celebrate the upcoming holiday. We made them out of cups and paper and had to glue on eyes, ears, whiskers, teeth, feet and a nose! It was lots of fun!

LZ7 and the beanstalks!

Look at our amazing bean plants!! They have become too big for the peat pots they were planted in so we had to transplant them into a bigger garden tub. Everyone took turns to dig a small hole and plant their bean plant...and now we will watch them grow bigger...and bigger...and bigger!!! We must not forget to water them every day and Mr Revel, our caretaker has said he will help in the holidays. We can't wait to see how big they are after the break!

LZ7's favourite fruit graph!

We are learning about statistics and today we made a graph about our favourite fruit in LZ7. Strawberries had the most votes with 13 children choosing it as their favourite fruit. Blueberries were second with 4 votes and grapes were third with 2 votes. No one liked the orange as their favourite and apples and bananas only got one vote each!

Meera's photo news!

When Elmo went home with Meera he had a great time reading books, going for rides in various toys and getting to know Meera's family! Thanks for looking after Elmo so well Meera, and for sharing your photo news with the class!

Beat the feet with The Polka Dots!

On Friday afternoon we had a visit from the group 'The Polka Dots' to promote travelwise in our school community. They sang songs and danced and talked about why it is important to try and come to school by walking or riding our bikes or scooters instead of coming in the car. We had lots of fun singing and dancing with them!

Photo news by Kereama!

Ellie had a fantastic time staying with Kereama for a few days! They played on the PSP, cooked up a storm with lots of yummy and healthy vegetables and had fun together the whole time. Kereama's little sister Amaya enjoyed Ellie coming to visit too! Well done for sharing your photos on the IWB at school Kereama!
